Pippa Lugg
Born 1972.
Studied at Rhodes University, AAA School of
Advertising
and Waikato Polytechnic.
As far back as she can remember Pippa loved to draw.
Her painter/sculptor father
and weaver mother raised
her with a love for art.
Having grown up in South Africa she always yearned to experience foreign lands.
After years of travel overseas, Pippa completed a Bachelor of Media Arts Degree
in New Zealand. It was as part of this degree that she arranged to do her Internship
course with well known illustrators Henrik Drescher, Fraser Williamson and Daron
Parton. She regards this as the most valuable learning experience throughout her
studies. These inspirational artists cemented her idea of wanting to become a freelance
illustrator herself. During the course of her studies, Pippa won a Telecom New Zealand
Art Award.
Since 2001, she has been living back in South Africa and working as a freelance
artist for local and overseas clients. She has been commissioned to create children's
book, editorial and advertising illustrations as well as caricatures, cartoons
and 2D animation short films.
In 2005, Pippa was chosen to attend the UNESCO Africa Animated 2.0 Workshop in Durban.
After discovering the excitement of adding the dimension of movement to her drawings
through animation, she established Pluggin Animation in which she collaborates with
other artists.
At present Pippa lives in Port Elizabeth with her husband, Etienne and daughter,
Zoey. She has a home studio with an inspiring view, the perfect setting for her
creations.
